Looking Stylish....

...when it is freezing

As I write this I am tucked up in my studio in my ugg boots and warm hand knitted jersey. Not exactly a stylish image but a warm one! However this is not attire that I would leave the house in, unless a dire emergency arose!

For the past few weeks warmth has had equal feature to style in my clothing selection each morning and it is fair to say that I am cracking it and managing to look respectable and keep toasty warm.

Here are my five key pointers to keeping warm and looking fabulous:
1. Coats
Buy a coloured, sumptuous, good quality winter coat. Wear it as a feature garment and wrap up in it when the easterly hits. Choose a warm option with at least 70% wool or cashmere. Leave the black coat on the shelf and go with something that lifts your complexion and mood. Invest in a new coat each season and rotate it with lasts years' version when you need some variation.
2. Scarfs
Wear a scarf - they add colour, interest and lift the look of a whole outfit. Find one that agrees with your skin tone and texture. Buy the best you can afford and have at least three to interchange when the mood takes you.
3. Thermal tops
Invest in neutral coloured, very close fitting fine merino or thermal tops and wear them under everything. Choose two or three with varying necklines and of high quality. They can be worn under your favourite shirt, top or knitwear.
4. Boots
Wear knee high or long boots. Black and brown are wardrobe basics. Boots really do keep your legs warm. A little hint - put your possum socks underneath and your feet will be snugly all day long!
5. Accessories
Accessories are key. There are more gloves around this season than I have ever seen - every colour of the rainbow and in leather, wool and fine knit. There is nothing more stylish than a pair of gorgeous gloves worn with your best winter coat. Oh and do not forget the hat! Choose one that suits your face shape and hairstyle.

Look out for the mid winter sales that are about to start and don't forget to whip out and buy a new scarf and some gloves. Enjoy your shopping.
